Update on Russian yachts seized

It is being widely reported by international broadcasters and throughout social media, that Russian-owned superyachts are being seized as they sit in waters of the countries that are posing sanctions on Russian companies and oligarchs. While these reports have been circulated, the sources behind some of these stories have been broadly unknown, we will continue to update this article as and when further yachts are sanctioned. It has been announced on social media platform Twitter that the plea by Millemarin Investment on the registration of the US warrant to seize the Lürssen superyacht has been dismissed by the Fijian Court of Appeals. This may mean that the yacht could now be handed over to US officials and she may be taken to the United States where her arrest will continue. According a statement shared by Fiji’s office of Prosecutions has noted that the judgement will not come into effect for seven days from the notice of all parties involved, meaning that action will not be taken until mid-next week.

Fiji’s High Court has now given the green light for the arrest of the 106.1-metre Amadea the ownership of which has allegedly been in dispute according to Bloomberg. It has been reported that the owners representatives are requesting a stay Suva High Court’s ruling which has permitted the seizure of the vessel due to sanctions imposed against the owner by the United States authorities.
