The superyacht industry never sleeps. 2022 has been as busy as ever, and here at Yachting Pages we’ve kept on top of everything to ensure you know what’s going on. It’s been a diverse year for news stories, with topics ranging from the attempted sinking of Vladimir Putin’s superyacht to the unveiling of new cast members on the hit reality television show Below Deck – and everything in between.
As we move into 2023, we want to take you through the 10 stories that, according to our calculations, have piqued your interest the most over the last 12 months.
So, in reverse order, let’s look at the year’s top 10 most read stories.
10. Albania unable to supply duty-free fuel
Way back in January this year, it was announced that duty-free fuel for yachts was not available in any Albanian ports. While Albania remains a cheap location for vessels to refuel, it had been undercut by neighbouring Montenegro, which is still a duty-free haven for private and commercial yachts.
At the time, Darko Jankovic, CEO of Yacht Agent Montenegro, said, “It was announced at the end of the year that it might happen, but because of the impact it would have on yachting in Albania and the surrounding area, everyone thought it is unlikely to happen at such short notice.”
So, if you’re planning on visiting the Adriatic, there are four main refuelling points for duty-free diesel in Montenegro: Porto Montenegro, Portonovi, Kumbor and Marina Bar.
