Now that Netflix’s wildly popular Drive to Survive series has pulled the velvet rope back on all the drama, glamor, danger, and exuberant excess of the high-octane, high-profile, high- pressure F1 traveling circus for the mainstream American audience, it would be an understatement to say that the hype and anticipation for the inaugural Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix is…stratospheric!
But, since I’ve seen how the gravitational pull of F1 brings celebrities and royalty together with superyacht yacht owners and automotive speed freaks in Monaco and other destinations, I’m not surprised. In fact, Miami might be the perfect American city to host this new Formula 1 Grand Prix (taking place from May 6-8 around Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium) because of the unique way the city celebrates beach life, nightlife, innovative American entrepreneurship, and its diverse international community.
As a result, all eyes will be on the 3.3-mile-long track that features 19 corners and three straights that will allow the drivers to reach speeds touching 200 MPH that was built specifically for the event.
Like some of the iconic tracks in Europe, there are elevation changes too. The biggest elevation change is between turns 13 and 16 where the drivers will have to navigate over an exit ramp and under numerous flyovers across uneven ground. Meanwhile, the turn 14-15 chicane has an uphill approach, with a crest in the middle, and then drops down on exit.
And there will be plenty for those who don’t know the difference between “chicanes” and a champagne too!
