Russian oligarch Dmitry Rybolovlev helped fund some of Hollywood’s biggest movies including Top Gun: Maverick, a lawsuit has revealed.
The revelation came as part of a new lawsuit being filed by Bradley Fischer, the former president of New Republic Pictures, who is suing his former company over breach of contract, according to a new report from The Los Angeles Times.
Fischer maintains in his lawsuit that while he negotiated a contract extension, New Republic pulled their original proposal, and attempted to renegotiate a far less attractive offer.
He says the reason for the second offer was because the company’s de-facto CEO, fertilizer tycoon Dmitry Rybolovlev, 56, was in the process of pulling back his funding for New Republic because he was protecting his assets in the fallout from the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The lawsuit says: ‘[Rybolovlev] moved to minimize his exposure [and] began to withdraw his business operations from the West. Of particular relevance here, he pulled back from the movie industry.’
