Construction is officially underway at Damen Yachting on the first Amels 80 as the shipyard completes the cutting of the steel at its Galați facility in Romania.

The 80 metre model is now the largest offering in the shipyard’s popular Limited Editions range and was unveiled during a live-stream broadcast from Amsterdam on March 31.

“For all of us at Damen Yachting, the steel cutting of the first Amels 80 is a really significant milestone. It represents the first stage of the build and the start of this new design being transformed into reality,” the shipyard said.

The exterior of the Amels 80 has been designed by Espen Øino while Damen Yachting turned to Dutch studio Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design for the interiors, marking the pair’s first collaboration. The first hull is due for delivery in spring 2025 and work on the second hull is already underway.

Speaking at the live premiere, Øino walked viewers through the exterior design concept: “We tried to make the overall lines as contemporary as possible, simple with curvaceous forms but also with some strong elements in the form of knuckles and sharp angles to break the curves and make it more dynamic.”

Standout features on board the Amels 80 include a 6.5-metre swimming pool on the aft deck that features transparent floor segments that drench the beach club below in natural light. A large stern platform is a focal point of the design says Øino. “It opens straight into the beach club and you can overlook activities from aft of the pool.”
