Celebrities are the bread and butter of your typical hard-working Cannes Film Festival paparazzo, you can find them on the red carpet, getting into and out of limousines and of course, losing their balance onboard opulent superyachts.

But who likes to party where? Will I find Prince Mohammed bin Fahd al Saud rubbing shoulders with Kim Kardashian on board his epic superyacht, Montkaj? Or will Kanye West be snapped riding a jet ski from Bernard Arnault’s massive luxury vessel Symphony’s tender garage and crash the party?

The Cannes Film Festival sees its fair share of wild deck parties, celebrities like Megan Markle, Priyanka Chopra and Hailey Bieber (nee Baldwin) are all known to have attended functions onboard superyachts with the super rich.

Let’s take a look at some of the more well-known celebrities at Cannes and the yachts they have chosen for their foray into film festival boating over the years.

Emily Ratakjkowski, Hailey Baldwin and Bella Hadid – Ecstasea

Topping the list of celebrities at Cannes is three of the world’s most famous models and influencers were caught on social media getting frisky aboard super yacht Ecstasea at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, needless to say there are plenty of people who would give their left arm to have attended the party.

The A$170 million, 86-metre yacht was built in 2004 by preeminent Dutch ship builder Feadship and is currently owned by Belgian entrepreneur Alshair Fiyaz. A regular sight in the waters of the French Riviera, it can comfortably accommodate 14 guests with a crew of 24 to see to the guests’ every need.

Reserved for the ludicrously wealthy, the vessel’s annual running costs are approximately A$14-28 million per year and there is an onboard massage…

It turns out Russian oligarchs are not the only wealthy people looking to unload their most valuable assets in view of recent events back home. According to a recent Wall Street Journal report, that group now includes Saudi princes, who together have sold more than $600 million worth of “real estate, yachts, and artwork” in recent years. What has spurred those sales in recent years? Reportedly the sales have been occurring ever since Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman began cracking down on many of the perks and benefits of royal status they had previously enjoyed.

The perks and benefits include routine maintenance bills on airplanes, yachts, and palaces that they aren’t selling. Where previously those bills would have been footed by the Saudi Arabian government, now members of the royal family are responsible for their own spending. As a result, many have been forced to sell off some of their assets in order to pay bills and trim monthly lifestyle costs.

But it isn’t just the need for some fast cash that is motivating these sales. According to one unnamed source close to some of the royal princes in question quoted by WSJ, it’s also a desire not to attract any unwanted attention from Prince Mohammed by way of lavish spending or other displays of ostentatious wealth:

“These people don’t work, they have huge staffs and they’re afraid of [Prince Mohammed],” the source says, adding that the desire behind the sales is usually for a combination of “cash in their back pocket and not to have visible wealth.“

In one of the weddings of the year, Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian got married in style at the Italian Riviera fishing village of Portofino last weekend, famed for its colourful buildings and celebrity visitors. Although the ceremony and reception were on dry land, at the Dolce and Gabbana-owned Olivetta Villa and a 16th-century castle, two luxurious Superyachts hosted some of the festivities the Monday after their big day.

Mr and Mrs Barker chose to celebrate aboard the 65-meter Codecasa-built Regina d’Italia and the 33-meter Fatima by Riva Yachts. They enjoyed their time aboard by jumping off the side of the Fatima in an exhilarating newlywed plunge in the Mediterranean.

Villa Olivetti is owned by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, it is a collection of clifftop villas and buildings in a picturesque part of Portofino overlooking the sea in which the 50-strong wedding party stayed in the lead up to the event.

Regina d’Italia

This 65-meter yacht was delivered in 2019 and should not be confused with the Regina d’Italia II, which was previously owned by Dolce and Gabbana. Details about the interiors of the Regina d’Italia are difficult to come across, but it has a sporty contemporary exterior profile by stylist Domenico Gozzani.

There is a massive lounge and formal dining area on the main deck plus huge alfresco living areas and an impressive owner’s apartment on the upper deck. The sundeck features a 5 by 2 meter swimming pool for cooling off and plenty of deck space for sunning, the entire upper foredeck is dedicated to the owner and acts as a private terrace.

Tom Brady and Jerry Jones are two prominent figures in the NFL. The former is the best player ever to grace the gridiron, while the latter is one of the most famous team owners in the game’s history. They both have achieved enormous success in their career and have cemented themselves as icons of the National Football League.

Tom Brady, the quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, owns a 77-foot yacht worth about $6 million. However, The Goat’s yacht seems to pale compared to the yacht that the Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones owns.
