Less than a month after Bay Marine reopened its Waukegan yacht sales, service and storage center after a devastating fire nearly a year ago caused $40 million worth of damage to the building and boats, the company had to repeat the process elsewhere due to a natural disaster.
With operations in Waukegan, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, and Fort Myers, Florida, the storm surge from Hurricane Ian picked up boats in late September dropping them in different slips and on people’s yards, impacting yachts owned by Bay Marine and its customers.
Matt Felhofer, Bay Marine’s owner and president, said he and his team of employees, insurance agents and other professional experts quickly applied what they learned from the Waukegan fire to get the Florida operation going quickly.
“I never even fathomed a storm like the one that passed over our sales office in Fort Myers could ever happen,” Felhofer said. “We were able to make quality decisions from what we learned here to help the team there. We always kept the ball moving forward. We never missed a beat.”

Bay Marine is currently selling and servicing primarily 40- to 80-foot yachts from its restored facility near Waukegan Harbor and Marina after erecting and then operating in a nearby temporary site to take care of its customers during the restoration.
Started in Surgeon Bay by Felhofer’s father, Francis, in 1969, Bay Marine…

Barrymore, 47, spoke to Sam Smith on the Monday, January 23, episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, and asked the “I’m Not the Only One” singer, 30, who their first ever crush was. Smith, who uses they/them pronouns, responded that their answer was “100 percent” DiCaprio from Titanic.
“I love that he’s still clubbing, you know … goes on yachts … he goes to the body shop, I bet,” the talk show host teased while referencing Smith’s hit song “Unholy.”
The England native laughed and joked alongside Barrymore, calling DiCaprio a “naughty boy” with the Never Been Kissed actress replying, “I know, I love it.”
Besides the Oscar winner’s bustling acting career, he is also well-known for his dating history — and Barrymore’s joke isn’t the first time he’s been poked fun at for it.
At the 2022 Emmys, Kenan Thompson teased Zendaya — who had recently celebrated her birthday — about being at a “weird age” for Hollywood standards. “26 is a weird age in Hollywood,” the SNL star said in September 2022. “I mean, you’re young enough to play a high school student, but too old to date Leonardo DiCaprio.”

Interest in a new type of HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil) fuel for superyachts has spiked, according to reports from engine manufacturer Caterpillar and the fuel’s producer Fioul 83.
The diesel alternative, which is marketed under the name Cristal Power XTL100, claims to offer a 90 percent reduction in CO2 emissions on the basis that it is made from recycled oil that has already made its environmental impact. While the biofuel still emits nitrogen oxides, it does not emit any sulphur and claims to be 100 percent odour-free and compatible with all engine types, without an increase in fuel consumption.
A presentation and demonstration of the new biofuel brought together a number of representatives from across the maritime industry to discuss the benefits and challenges of the new fuel in Antibes on 20th January.
The event was spearheaded by Fioul 83’s co-manager Philippe Falaize and Jean-Maxime Berthet, captain on board the 44-metre (144-foot) superyacht Lammouche, which is currently trialling the new fuel.
For superyachts, one of the biggest benefits is an improvement in on-board comfort as the biofuel promises no smell and no black smoke. According to Berthet, the biggest challenges are access, distribution and cost.
Cristal Power XTL100 is eligible for VAT exemptions under certain charter contracts, including the MYBA contract. However, Berthet said, “Even if we are confident that [charterers] will be happy to pay the extra money for using HVO, we cannot…

Even Drew Barrymore is surprised by how Leonardo DiCaprio can still keep up with his bad boy lifestyle.
The “Charlie’s Angel” alum addressed the 48-year-old “Titanic” star’s busy social life in an interview with Sam Smith, who revealed DiCaprio was their first-ever celebrity crush.
The “Don’t Look Up” actor was dressed casually for the get-together, sporting a white tee, a gray baseball cap and dark shades.
“I love that he’s still clubbing, you know … goes on yachts,” the actress joked to Sam Smith.
Although sources previously told Page Six that Lamas and DiCaprio were not dating, her father, actor Lorenzo Lamas, exclusively told The Post last month that his daughter was “smitten” with the actor.
“I know she…

What has led to Azimut-Benetti’s “all-time high” record book and the company finishing last year by increasing its lead at the top of the Global Order Book?
I can’t recall when the market has been like this. It has been booming for the past year or so. Our order book was up to €3 billion after the first two boat shows of the season, the Cannes Yachting Festival and the Genoa International Boat Show (in September 2022). It’s a record for us, not only for the value of the order book but especially for the duration, as we have orders for deliveries up to 2026 and 2027.
Such an order book helps us plan production because we can foresee our orders. It’s great in terms of value but also in terms of giving stability for many years. It’s also recognition from the market. Why has this happened? For all the industry, the pandemic was incredible. None of us was expecting this. It led to people rediscovering the pleasure of yachting, being in a place where you’re free, both in terms of where you can move and in terms of choosing the people around you.
This applies from the smaller models to the big yachts. We have probably been luckier or better than others in introducing trends that became even more popular during the pandemic, such as this idea to go back to nature. Our Benetti Oasis has…

Inside Numarine’s 35,000 sq. m, climate-controlled production facility near Istanbul, there are currently 13 yachts total under construction in the 22XP, 26XP and 37XP ranges (the 37XP made its boat show debut last year). In the past five years the company has found a successful niche in crossover-style explorer yachts.
37XP
“2022 marked our 20th anniversary and was the best year we’ve ever had,” says Ömer Malaz, Chairman of Numarine. “And it looks like the next 12 months are just going to mimic it.”
Numarine looks back on a successful 2022 and forward to the next 12 months that are looking just as promising.
“We’ve delivered over 170 yachts to date, so we now have a very credible pedigree with a
niche product”, says Malaz.
He adds that exports account for around 70 per cent of Numarine sales with 20 percent in Turkey, 35 percent in the US, 25 percent from other European countries, and the remaining 10 percent from elsewhere.
30XP
Turkey is now challenging the top yacht-building nations of Italy, the Netherlands and Germany. According to SuperyachtTimes’ report State of Yachting 2022, the country’s shipyards rank third in the world, with 70 new builds over 24m under construction in 2022. The nation also overtook the Netherlands in terms of most yachts built between 30m-40m.
The brand has also acquired land to expand its production with a new waterside facility, where Numarine will build its new flagship, the steel and aluminum…

Low Emission Yachts are a concrete project, which the Group launched to offer the market a reduction in fuel consumption – and consequently in CO2 emissions – from 20 to 30% compared to boats of the same weight and dimensions with traditional hard-chine hulls and shaft line propulsion. These results were achieved through a holistic study of the vessel, including the adoption of the most efficient propulsion systems for each yacht’s mission, the development of high-performance hydrodynamic hulls and the extensive use of lightweight carbon fiber.
S7
The S7 is therefore the result of cutting-edge technological research, which sees the combination of the most advanced naval architecture in the category with the supremely efficient triple Volvo IPS engine configuration, and optimized hull lines, designed in collaboration with P.L. Ausonio Naval Architecture. The result is an impressive reduction of up to 30% in consumption and CO2 emissions at medium and high speeds, meeting the rigorous standards of Azimut’s Low Emission Yacht family.

Sanlorenzo Boot Dusseldorf stand designed by Piero Lissoni
These are projects of absolute technological innovation that will be made possible thanks to exclusive strategic agreements with energy giants such as Siemens Energy. Despite the fact that yachting accounts for only 0.22% of the total GHG emissions of the entire shipping sector, (International Maritime Organisation, 2020), the introduction of innovations and technologies to reduce the environmental impact of yachts is becoming an increasingly central part of the Sanlorenzo Group’s Research and Development department’s business plan.
After the exclusive agreement signed with Siemens Energy for the development and integration of combined reformer/fuel cell modules into the power supply system for hotellerie functions on yachts between 24 and 80 meters in length, and after the decision announced in September 2022 to develop such a system for the specific requirements of the new 50Steel, the Sanlorenzo Group can today state that the project’s progress is…
