(NYSE: HZO), the world’s largest recreational boat and yacht retailer, today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Island Global Yachting LLC (“IGY Marinas”), which owns and operates a collection of iconic marina assets and a yacht management platform in key global yachting destinations. MarineMax will acquire IGY Marinas for $480 million in cash, with an additional potential earnout of up to $100 million two years after closing, subject to the achievement of defined performance metrics. IGY Marinas, through recent acquisitions and organic growth, is projected to generate over $100 million of revenue in calendar 2022. Subject to the satisfaction of customary closing conditions, MarineMax expects the acquisition to close in the first half of fiscal 2023 and to be accretive within the first twelve months of closing. Cloud Yachts, Gregory C Marshall and Delta Marine have teamed up to present a 63 metre superyacht project that will be available to purchase both as an NFT and new-build with Denison Yachting.

Project Metaverse has been designed by Gregory C Marshall, whose most recent projects include the 80 metre multi-award-winning Artefact, and is offered for sale as an NFT on the blockchain for $95,000,000. If sold, the project will be the highest price ever paid for an NFT. 

Meanwhile, North American shipyard Delta Marine has agreed to build the vessel, so as well as owning the non-fungible token for Project Metaverse, the new owner will be able to see the design crossover into the real world.

Project Metaverse builds on the growing Cloud Yachts portfolio of NFT yachts, the first of which made their debut at the Miami Yacht Show in February 2022. Cloud Yachts teamed up with Marshall to create a limited-run of superyacht designs and sold 10 in Miami at 1 ETH (Ethereum) each.

What is an NFT?

An NFT (non-fungible token) is a digital asset that represents a real-world object. What started as a way to buy and sell digital artwork has snowballed into cars, houses and even superyachts. They are frequently sold in cryptocurrency and are often encoded in the same way.

The acquisition follows record-setting numbers by both companies at the 2022 Miami in February and Palm Beach Boat Shows in March, and further advances OneWater’s growth and diversification strategy, significantly bolstering its product portfolio and customer reach.

Designer Steve Kozloff has unveiled his latest creation, a 100 metre double-masted trimaran concept. Named The Trident, the inventive design comes complete with six decks and two dedicated helipads, one on each of the vessel’s crossbeams.

Fitted with a Solid Sail system, The Trident’s mast tilts 70 degrees forward which reduces the air draft by 30 metres, allowing the yacht to pass under most bridges.

The vessel can be facing any direction when the sails are raised or lowered, and the mast can rotate a full 360 degrees.

Elsewhere, the concept is packed with amenities and sports a full-beam beach club on the main hull with retractable decks. A telescoping crane system has been integrated into the boom of each mast, which can load and off-load provisions, tenders and seaplanes.

Forward on each of her side hulls, The Trident features two large swimming pools, while two spas are found forward and aft on the main hull.

The interior is set on several levels and is characterised by curved walls and a multitude of large windows. Centre-stage is the 210 square metre owner’s suite in the bow of the central hull, while two additional “master cabins” are found towards the bow of both side hulls.

Floor-to-ceiling windows adorn the upper deck saloon that also features a piano bar and entertainment centre. The concept also boasts a tender arsenal including a Nemo U-Boat Worx submarine, with storage found towards the stern. Heated masts, handrails and doors minimise icing problems and allow The Trident to traverse even the most arctic of conditions.

In April 2022 Kozloff, who is known for his imaginative and radical designs, released renderings of a 170 metre triple-masted sailing yacht concept named Glory.
