SuperYacht Times Head of Intelligence, Ralph Dazert shares his analysis of the American brokerage market, with insights from the data intelligence system, SYT iQ.As the interest from Russian buyers faded away during 2022 for obvious reasons, the superyacht sales market became even more US-dominated than before. Americans are by far the biggest buyer’s group in the market as of late 2022. At the start of 2022, buyers from North America (so including Canada as well) accounted for 27% of all the in-build yachts over 40 metres according to SuperYacht Times’ own annual market report The State of Yachting 2022. This represented more than twice the share of Russian buyers for newbuilds which stood at 13%. It is always a challenge to find buyer nationalities for new-builds as in many cases the sales simply are not announced or the buyer’s nationality is not disclosed. However, for those deals with identified buyers over 30 metres so far in 2022, US buyers are clearly in the lead. Until 1 September 2022, US buyers accounted for 28 out of 59 transactions in which we established the buyer’s nationality. To put this into perspective, we recorded a total of 136 newbuild sales over 30 metres during the first eight months. The actual number of US-owned newbuilds is probably higher than what we found…
